Supervised scanning
Practise core views and image optimisation on live models with guidance from the teaching team.
PETERBOROUGH · 5 DECEMBER 2026
British Society of Echocardiography endorsed course
A day at the machine, with guidance as you scan.
Practise scanning on live models, use HeartWorks simulators and interpret echo studies in small groups, with feedback on the views you acquire and how you report them.

COURSE SUPPORTED BY

WHO IT’S FOR
Relevant specialties include Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Acute and General Medicine, and Cardiology.
The course welcomes participants working towards BSE Level 1 accreditation, as well as those wishing to develop their practical echocardiography skills without currently pursuing formal accreditation.
Basic echocardiography experience is required. You should be familiar with probe handling, basic cardiac anatomy and the standard transthoracic echo views.
Existing BSE accreditation or independent scanning experience is not required. If you are completely new to echo, please contact us before booking to discuss whether this course is suitable. Ask about suitability.
Course attendance does not itself confer accreditation or establish competence for independent practice. Further clinical scanning should remain within your competence and local supervision and governance arrangements.
For those choosing the accreditation pathway, the teaching supports further supervised practice, completion of the required logbook with a designated mentor, and preparation for the BSE practical assessment.
THE TEACHING DAY
Time to scan, discuss cases and ask questions, with feedback throughout the day.
Practise core views and image optimisation on live models with guidance from the teaching team.
Explore cardiac anatomy and practise your scanning approach using simulation.
Work through normal and abnormal studies and develop a structured approach to focused reporting.
Put your skills into practice in a formative circuit with live scanning, simulation and video stations.
Prepare with guidance on the pathway, logbook and case mix. Access is released separately after payment confirmation.
Lunch and refreshment breaks are included throughout the day at Delta Hotels Peterborough.
SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER 2026
A day of supervised scanning, simulation and case-based learning. Every candidate completes both afternoon workshops.
